iGaming industry employees raise €14,269 to support Malta community

Over the past months, iGaming employees and their companies have been cooperating on various initiatives to support the local community in Malta in this time of need.

Co-ordinated by iGEN, the industry body representing 21 leading locally-based iGaming companies and supported by GamingMalta, the initiatives included a fundraising drive appealing to workers, with companies matching, who donated €9,091 towards the Foodbank Lifeline Foundation, which donates food to people in need, and a further €5,178 towards the Gift of Therapy initiative by the Richmond Foundation, a Maltese mental health charity,

A representative from the Foodbank Lifeline also stated: “Generous support like donations given by the iGaming employees has enabled Foodbank Lifeline to continue to support their clients, who find themselves in desperate situations and without the means to provide basic food items for themselves nor their families.”

Svetlana Gatt at The Richmond Foundation stated: Donations help the Richmond Foundation to provide professional therapy to people who cannot afford to pay for the service.  During the Covid-19 pandemic the demand for Richmond’s services has increased significantly, so we have highly welcomed this initiative. Through the Gift of Therapy, the iGaming employees have helped others to find the support they need.

A representative from ZAAR, the crowdfunding platform used by the employees stated “Crowdfunding has always been a popular method of alternative finance but as the world feels the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, it has become even more now: it is a way to connect with, support, and offer hope to the local community through these difficult times. The iGEN campaign on ZAAR was further proof that, with just a small donation, everyone has the chance to make a huge difference to the lives of those in their community, at a time when they need it the most.”
